Status: Secondary character(he doesn't appear much).

In The Alienist Theodore Roosevelt has yet to become the president he's most known for. In the Alienist he is the NYPD police commissioner at this time and is someone who heavily believes in justice for any criminal even the ones that most of the public would like to ignore and push under the rug.

Theodore Roosevelt is the recently appointed NYPD police cmmissioner for New York city. He is ambittious but principled, he's a reformer determined to clear up the curruption that is in New Yorks public and in the police force that he is now the leader of. An example of his desires to clear from the curruption is firing a seargent that was making up lies about a new case that the team was trying to investigate. He is very appreciative of the little things in life after suffering the tragedy of losing his first wife and his mother on the same day. Roosevelt is rather tough and determined, and is a clever politician hes described as vibrant and always ready to work.

Roosevelt is outraged by the immigrant children that are being targeted and murdered and even more with how the police and public respond to it. At this time he is a man in his early forties and commonly wears a type of glasses called a pince-nez. If it wasn't obvious Roosevelt is a characterization of the real Theodore Roosevelt from the real world.

Bad Qualities in the story

While not being a major character to the story Roosevelt is someone who has a lot of bad qualities in the story even if they don't necessarily make him a bad person these actions had the ability to stunt the characters investigation because of his overbearing personality and large desire to serve justice.

Bad qualities

In the story there are times when Theodore wishes to push the case out into the public and he often had a probblem with almost oversharing the information he's given out. There are also times in the story where Roosevelt lost his temper at people in regards to the case which could have stunted what our team was doing. He also made a few enemies that tried to cross teh team by firing them for making fun of the case or trying to bruhs it off. In return these people began to target our investigators, at moments causing them harm.

Overall Roosevelt is a minor character in te story who only has a big impact nearing the end of the story. Overall what we see of him his justice for the kids who have died is quite refreshing in a story where almost no one cares about the murders.
